Typography and Type
Design-
The design of a type matter. The style, arrangement and/or appearance.
Typography (Digital) – the design of typefaces,
letterforms and arrangements of type for digital format, screen based viewing/use.
Typography (physical) – the design of fonts,
letterforms and arrangements of type in physical for, hand written, printing
blocks, etc.
Hk Grotesk is one of favourite San Serifs right now. The typeface is inspired by classic grotesques with features similar to typefaces such as Trade Gothic and Gills Sans. The Typeface, designed by Alfredo Marco Pradil is designed to purposely work over various subject matters and without being obtrusive and with ease on the eye as a priority.
Another one of the biggest brands in the world with one of the most well-known logos in the world. The Nike brand and swoosh logo is known by everyone. The logo communicates the brand well, simple, stylish, fast paced at the forefront of their game.

Garamond is a serif type I quite like. The typeface, part of the Vignelli Canon, the typeface is usually used for text printing in books. The typeface has a few distinctions such as the small eye of the e and the long ascenders and relatively short descenders.
Advertising and Public
awareness-
A body of work/design, with the purpose of reaching
viewers with a product, service or something the viewer may need/want. The
attempt to sell or make the viewer aware of a product/service through design.
This campaign recently went viral for a plethora of reasons both good and bad. At the end of the day, the advert did its job, and communicated what it needed to in whatever way it could, trying to raise awareness of an issue in this country.
A very very clever campaign that tried promoted the new range rover. This stunt also went viral and got everybody talking like intended. This is one of my favourite advertisement as it plays on what people perceive advertising to be. The brief was to give the car exposure, negative or positive and they campaign certainly met its intended targets.
Branding and Logo Design-
The design of a brand (company, group etc) and
their identity. How the client would be perceived by the viewer looking at
their branding, got to fit their ethos, motive, company, what they do. Logo –
the design of an image, ligature, typographic piece that serves as the main
face of a company, brand. A logo is what viewers will see most often, got to correspond
with company ethos, what they stand for, do etc. Popular logo is one easily
distinguishable among the rest.
Arguably one of the most popular brands in the world. The apple brand is sleek, well designed and modern, constantly put at the forefront of innovation in tech by its loyal consumer base. The brand is seamless through every one of their products, well built, reliable and relatively prestigious to own. The logo communicates everything the brand resembles, simple, sleek and modern and is recognisable all over the world.
Editorial Design-
Focuses on how publishers design magazines,
newspapers journals etc. Focuses mainly on the identity, structure, art, typography
layout etc.
Wonderland is a beautiful example of great editorial design. The Rebranded wonderland uses really nice, bold striking type and a full image feature on the cover. Negative space, image and type work harmoniously to stand out to the reader with the image and type working really well together, balanced perfectly.
99U is another example of really nice editorial design. The cover uses large amounts negative space with a striking cover image and very little text. The layout design is gorgeous with the use of negative space throughout, grid systems, contrasting colour schemes and varying text weights and types. The magazine is incredibly well designed and is one of my favourite examples of editorial design.
Design for screen-
Similar to editorial but in a digital format,
thinking about the layout, typography, identity, logo etc. Also includes
designing user interface items such drop down windows, pop ups, menus etc.
This portfolio design by Joao Marques is a really nice example of UI design. The website optimised for desktop and mobile is a really nice balance of negative space, clean type and simple colour scheme. The design ensures it's easy on the eye and works really well.
La cambre Arts Visuels by Fanny Kruk is a unusual website design optimised for desktop and mobile. The website does away with traditional web layouts and long page scrolling with a tab system that looks really clean. The contrasting colour scheme works really well and compliments the type used too. The negative space works well with the grid systems containing the text.
Printmaking –
The physical process of making pictures or designs from
a single original surface, using physical process with inks and screens, for
either poster design, textiles etc.
Art and Disseny by Virgulillas Studio is a really good example of print making. The promotional product is a really well designed and printed detailed piece and shows how good a physical process like printmaking and the results they produce can be.
A really good example of how not everything needs to be complicated and busy to look good. A really clean, simple print by Dan with a really clean white sans serif type on an all black contrasting shirt. The type works really well with the negative space of the shirt and looks really good.
